“When I heard about Charlotte Hardwick and Molly Carroll’s Costa Rica Cracking Open Retreat, that still, small voice inside me said, “Go” and I’m so glad I listened. I went hoping to spend a week with fellow seekers and I met my soul sisters, women who dare to look deeper, face their fears in the name of change. In short, I left with my tribe and will be forever grateful.”

The Retreat Location

The Encantada Ocean Cottages is a boutique, family-owned retreat center in Esterillos Este, Costa Rica (less than two hours from San Jose International airport).

The individual spacious cottages sleep 2-4 people, and are just steps from the pristine beach, relaxing swimming pool, and peaceful yoga patio. Also on the property is beach volleyball, boogie boarding, and massage services (extra cost).

Each day, three healthy meals are made fresh from local ingredients, and vegan meals are available with advanced notice. And at just 20 minutes from the town of Jaco, Encantada is private, peaceful, and in an underdeveloped area, yet close to restaurants, shops, and nightlife for those who feel like checking it out.

Frequently Asked Questions

What airport do I fly into?

You fly into San Jose airport. Most airlines fly into this airport.

What if I need to fly into San Jose at night, is there a hotel that is close to the airport?

Yes, there is a Hampton Inn and a Holiday Inn with shuttles from the airport to the hotel.  Both hotels are very safe and comfortable.

Do I need travel insurance?

The purchase of travel insurance is strongly recommended to ensure you are covered should any unexpected event arise. A personal, political, environmental or weather-related incident or pre-existing medical condition may prevent or interrupt your travels. These events are rare but do occur and underscore the importance of being covered by travel insurance. Should you elect to not purchase travel insurance, you will be assuming 100% of any costs incurred for trip cancellation or trip interruption. TravelEx and World Nomads are two reputable organizations. There is a broad spectrum of policies and options so make sure you are clear on what exactly is covered.

Force Majeure Clause: In the event of political unrest, natural disasters, medical emergencies, pandemics, epidemics, terrorism, labor strikes, curtailment of transportation, etc. we are not responsible for refunding your registration in full.

What are the COVID-19 travel restrictions in Costa Rica?

Country entry requirements

Entry to Costa Rica is allowed for tourists from all countries.

Each visitor must comply with the migratory processes established in the General Law of Migration and Immigration.

Starting April 1, the temporary migration measures established in the framework of the national health emergency due to COVID-19 are repealed.

During their stay in Costa Rica, tourists must follow the health protocols established by private companies in order to participle in any tourist activity.

*Important update (April 1-2022)*

Starting April 1, 2022, the temporary immigration measures for entering Costa Rica – put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic – are repealed. This eliminates the requirement to complete the epidemiological form known as the Health Pass and the requirement of medical insurance for unvaccinated foreigners.

All commercial establishments, activities, and events can operate at 100% capacity.

Costa Rica maintains the requirement for the mandatory use of masks, the protocol for washing hands and taking temperatures, as well as compliance with health protocols for each tourist activity.

Tourists can verify if they require a visa to enter Costa Rica using the following link https://migracion.go.cr/Paginas/Visas.aspx.

As we know, things can change rapidly. The latest COVID-19 for travel in and out of Costa Rica may be found here: https://www.visitcostarica.com/en/costa-rica/planning-your-trip/entry-requirements

Cracking Open I would say that you have always fostered a safe, warm, nurturing, and supportive environment at your retreats. There has been a good combination of humor, humility, introspection, and growth that has come out of each one that I’ve attended. As you know, I am always a little uncomfortable in those types of environments and don’t like to have a lot of time for too much self-reflection – but you’ve always managed to strike a great balance in these retreats. I’ve also met a lot of amazing women, and gone to some beautiful locations,  and there is always a good mix of nature, healthy food, exercise, and laughter that has struck just the right chord for me.  I’ve also enjoyed listening to your podcast, using your cracking open workbook (which I often go back to for reflection), and enjoyed reading Trust Within.  You are an amazing guide who manages to provide great insights and opportunities to hit reset, sift through priorities, and have helped me gain focus moving forward in different areas of my life.

I’ve loved the podcasts…they are inspiring, incredibly thoughtful, and smart, and I find the guests to be very interesting people that make me think about things in life from a different perspective. There are so many to choose from but one of my favorites to date is listening to Heather Jones and her heartfelt vulnerability sharing “how to heal your body by healing your soul”. I listened to it multiple times and it has allowed me to really think about past experiences and how they’ve driven me to have more negative thoughts versus positive ones relative to food, my body, and taking care of myself versus taking care of everyone else first.

The retreat in Mexico allowed me to pause and take a deep look at my past struggles and successes and how those experiences were holding me back from living a full and adventurous life. I’ve learned a lot about myself and how to get it out of my head and into my heart. How to lead with my heart and lean into love, not fear. How to be brave and courageous despite difficulties in life and how to have self-compassion letting myself “do” or “not do” and give me grace. Most importantly, I have made great strides in transferring my energy from always having to be productive to pausing and finding joy in moments throughout each day whether with friends, family, or clients and really listening to the world and people around me.”
